There are plenty of things to do and see around Cornell, Ithaca, and the Finger Lakes region:

Cornell
* Cornell Plantations: Botanical gardens, an arboretum, and natural areas sprinkled throughout campus.
* Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art: Building was designed by I.M. Pei and has great views inside and out (stunning views of the campus and Cayuga Lake).
* Cornell Chimes in McGraw Clock Tower: Climb the clock tower's 161 steps for a gorgeous view of Ithaca and Cayuga Lake, and watch a live performance of the 21-bell chimes.
* Cornell Dairy Bar and Store: Treat yourself to ice cream made just steps away using Cornell cows' milk. After all, Ithaca is the Home of the Ice Cream Sundae.
* Walking tour of Cornell campus: Learn all sorts of interesting facts about Cornell's history and campus during a guided 1.25-hour tour.
* Cornell Orchards store: Sample and buy a huge variety of apples, plus buy other fruits and gifts such as Cornell Sheep Program wool blankets.
* Cornell Lab of Ornithology is located minutes away in beautiful Sapsucker Woods

Ithaca
* The Ithaca Sciencenter has many hands-on science exhibits for kids of all ages. It is also a NY Space Grant Consortium member.
* The Museum of the Earth is a great place to view and touch fossils (including a North American Right Whale and a mastodon) plus learn about Earth's past, present, and future.
* The Commons and downtown Ithaca: The outdoor pedestrian mall and surrounding area is home to an eclectic selection of gift shops, clothing stores, artsy cinema, and restaurants.
* Ithaca Farmers Market: Held in a pavilion on the shore of Cayuga Lake, this farmers market offers a variety of local agriculture, foods, and crafts.
* Moosewood Restaurant: Named as one of the thirteen most influential restaurants of the 20th century by Bon Appetit magazine, Moosewood offers healthful natural cuisine and internationally acclaimed cookbooks.
* There are over 150 waterfalls within a 10-mile radius of downtown Ithaca... hence the popular phrase "Ithaca is Gorges." Three popular large waterfalls/state parks in the area are

Auburn
~40 mi north of Ithaca
* The Harriet Tubman Home
* William H. Seward House
Watkins Glen
~26 mi west of Ithaca
* Watkins Glen State Park: Walk over and under waterfalls along trails in this popular state park.
* Watkins Glen International raceway
Elmira
~37 mi southwest of Ithaca
* The National Soaring Museum focuses on soaring and motorless flight.
* Birthplace of former NASA astronaut and retired USAF Colonel Eileen Collins.
* Mark Twain's summer residence, where he wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and other famous works. His gravesite is also in Elmira.
Corning
~44 mi southwest of Ithaca
* Corning Museum of Glass: Browse the museum's vast collection of historic relics (including the original 200" disk for the Hale Telescope) and art, watch or participate in glassmaking, and marvel at Steuben glassworks in the gift shop.
* The Gaffer District offers many museums, restaurants, and shops (including the Corningware Corelle Revere Factory Store) in a historic setting.
