• Sky Online (Sky and Telescope)
  • Use the "Observing" link (on left hand side).
  • An excellent web with many images, a weekly news bulletin, and links to many other astronomy sites. Try here if you want to find something. Read about the last on brown dwarfs, planets around other stars, etc.
• The Phase of the Moon.
• The Astronomy Picture of the Day.
• SkyView will let you look at "view" the sky.
• Planetarium Software
  • Let's you see the sky on your PC, Mac, or smart phone
  • Some are free while others are commercial - you can turn up these also via a web search
  • I've not checked this in detail but "nine planets" is pretty well done (see link below)

SITES WITH INFO AND GOOD PICTURES:

• HST Public Information:
  • Contains many images taken with Hubble Space Telescope. Try the what's new catagory.
• The Nine Planets
  • This is really good site with lots of pictures and data on the planets.
• SEDS Internet Space Warehouse
  • An astronomy site maintained by undergraduates at the University of Arizona. Lots of links and stuff here.

• Exosolar Planets Encyclopedia
  • This site lists recent news about exosolar planets.
• University of California Planet Search Project
  • This link is put up by the major research team in finding new planets.
• Extrasolar Visions
  • Information on extrasolar planets. This site gives data on the planets and their host stars. It also has some very nice schematic illustrations of these other planetary systems. There are links to other sites, including those with the original data.

 

BLACK HOLE AND OTHER SIMULATIONS:

• Spacetime Wrinkles is a site at the University of Illinois giving information on relativity, descriptions of astronomical objects, and supercomputer simulations on the formation and life of black holes.
• Simulations of flights around black holes and neutrons stars by Robert Nemiroff of Michigan Technological University. Pretty neat.

  • Home page for an introductory course at the University of Rochester taught by Dan Watson. The title of the course is "Black Holes, Time Warps and the Large-scale Structure of the Universe". The lecture notes are on-line, so you might want to browse around a bit. This is where I got the links to the black hole and other simulations.
