Orbital motion and Kepler's Laws

  • Planetary orbits obey Kepler's laws.

  • Kepler's Laws can also be applied to binary stars. Sirius is an example of such a binary star.

  • The movement of a planet along the ecliptic follows Bode's law.

  • The orbits of the planets are nearly circular; a circle is just an ellipse in which the two foci coincide.
