Random motions

The stars in star clusters and in the spheroidal components of galaxies, and the galaxies in clusters of galaxies, have motions that are random in three dimensions. That is, they have no preferred plane (disk).

This is to be compared with circular motions in a disk, as seen in the disks of spiral galaxies.
