Background
Although the graduate students, research associates, and faculty members in the Cornell University Department of Astronomy and Center for Radiophysics and Space Research (CRSR) have always offered outreach education in various forms, a new Education and Public Outreach (EPO) Coordinator position was created in June 2006. Nancy Schaff came to the position with a background in 4-H Youth Development and Elementary Education, and is able to devote her time exclusively to coordinating outreach education for CRSR>
Faculty members, research associates, graduate students, and staff members offer lectures, teacher workshops, public outreach events in partnership with science centers, educational visits to the Space Sciences Building on the Cornell campus, special events, and more. The CRSR EPO program can also help educators access classroom instructional materials and ideas for hands-on astronomy activities.
