Undergraduate Students

In May 2003, undergraduate degrees in astronomy were awarded to four students: Alexander Hayes, Shannon Patel, Andrea Schneider, and Dara Zeehandelaar. Alex was a double major in Astronomy and College Scholar (in Astrophysics and Astrobiology) graduating summa cum laude in both majors and with distinction in all subjects. Alex plans to spend the next six months working on the upcoming Mars rover missions and after that apply to graduate school in astronomy. Shannon was a double major in Astronomy and Economics graduating cum laude in astronomy. He plans to work for a year doing astronomy at the University of Florida. Andrea was a double major in Astronomy and Archeology, and plans to work for a year in Hawaii as an archeologist. She will then work on her masters in historical astronomy and obtain her teaching certification.

During the academic year and summer, some 50 Cornell undergraduates worked on research projects with members of the Astronomy faculty and staff, as volunteers, for credit or as paid assistants.
