Dear Britt,

I wasn't doubting Dairmaid's ability to kill Corwin - after all,
Luke got Caine. But Luke had an almost acceptable reason for doing that,
from the point of view of the other Elders, no particular reason to go on
killing people, and besides, nobody much was left who was really close to
Caine, unless you count Gerard. I don't know if any of those conditions
apply to Dairmaid killing Corwin. So what I was really wondering was how
soon one of the other Elders would kill Dairmaid. The system being as it
is, I'd almost 100% guarantee that the rest of the Elders would know who
was responsible quite a bit sooner than Dairmaid wanted them to know.
Have you considered that the game master may have had no logical
reason for Corwin to act as he did? It's a very effective way to get the
players thinking the NPC's are acting out of some complicated GM plot
they don't begin to understand. And players are always so obliging about
coming up with really horrendous plots, too. In my game, I had Caine
being really nice to one of the PC's. She was dumb enough to think Caine
was really that different in the game. Wrong. But I didn't know why he
was being so nice to her, at least out where she could see what was going
on, until I realized her father (Osric) and uncle Finndo were still
around, with the eventual intent of doing a Brand, but from a much
stronger position within Chaos. That is, those two want both Chaos and
Amber. Don't tell my players, but so does Benedict. He just has an
incredible amount of patience, and he wants to be recognized in both
places as the legitimate ruler and the protector of the realm, rather
than as an usurper. Right at the moment, quite a few groups of outsiders
are playing into his hands, too. Just to make the job of holding on to
the crowns a little easier. After all, God-Kings who rule by right tend
to get a great deal of respect from the majority of their subjects, so he
could concentrate on dealing with any other Elders who have survived so
long, manipulating them into positions where it looked to everyone else
like he was doing both kingdoms a favor by wiping them out. Now if I can
just get my players back to actively playing, via the net - None of
this was in my head when the game started. I don't ordinarily think this
way, but PC's are so helpful in developing the plot - :)
As for Willis looking incompetent on his own, don't you think the
Elders can see through his efforts at looking less than competent?
Really, he needs Corwin's help!
