Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 Dear Paula, Lord Jesby refused to admit Dairmaid and Nerene because they wouldn't relinquish their allegiance to the Queen. He did offer us asylum in House Jesby but hiding out for the rest of our lives didn't sound very appealing. They left Marissa and Sally with Tyndall. I guess there's such a thing as a happy ending after all. Dairmaid has begun to talk to the younger members of the House about opposing Oberon. All the elders are petrified with fear of him. My biggest fear is that anyone who says BOO will get their mind rearranged. Gelb says this is against Chaos law, so I'd like organize a kind of a neighborhood watch group, so if the Old Man monkeys around with anybody's gray matter, we gather evidence and witnesses and take him to court faster than he can say "You're getting very sleepy." Dairmaid spent some time with Atura, Dierdre's daughter. She was training with a sword, against Oberon's direct orders. She and Dairmaid kicked around a poor demon who tried to stop them. That will probably lead to trouble. Or it might just lead to bigger demons patrolling the gymnasium. In any event, Dairmaid got to make a better first impression on Atura than Willis did. Though, of course, Dairmaid will eventually have to admit to her that yes, he WAS that dope Willis. The women of the house are just not going to stand for these rules. Eventually, I guess, one of them will get re-written. Hopefully we'll be able to nail Oberon's hide to the wall for it, AND repair whatever damage he's done to them. More likely, we'll all end up agreeing with him. Yes, you're right, Grandfather, the women shouldn't have anything to do with weaponry. They might damage their uteruses. We big strapping men can take care of them. Charges? Why would we want to press charges? We love Oberon. The good (?) news is that nobody's heard from Oberon for a couple of days. He's out trying to find all the relatives holed up in Shadow. Even the New And Improved Eric seems a bit irritated . . . or maybe just worried. Llewella retrieved her truename Trump of Morgan from Lazarus, which is a good thing, because shortly thereafter Dori and Lazarus decided to trump to FLORA. Remember, Flora kidnapped and brainwashed Fiona and Brand. Well, surprise, surprise, the newly-sanitized Dori and Lazarus are now stuck in Flora's shadow having an EXTREMELY pleasant time. There are birds and butterflies and pretty flowers, and everyone gets along there including Fiona and Brand. Whether they are better or worse off than us saps in House Amber was a matter of some debate. But Dori should know better. Flora's given her the old brain massage in the past. Morgan is now an official Citizen of Chaos. He's planning to leave House Amber (which he never really JOINED in any intentional way, but tell OBERON that. . .) and join House Bariman, with whom he's had contact in the past. They're the ones who gave him Kamow, the Fern Bodyguard. Character quiz for this week : If Oberon turned YOUR CHARACTER into a plant, what kind of plant would he be? I don't know when the trumps became wimpy. All I know is that some time in the past, almost all Oberon's children had their memories altered. Eric was beginning to investigate this when All Hell Broke Loose (i.e. the game began.) The Unicorn is Titania -- she stole the horn from the old nasty Unicorn and took his place. At least that's what Jason tells me. I agree -- the houses should all be after unicorn-babies. :) Maybe each one could have its own personal Pattern, too. We haven't seen Whelan in a while. All you old folks keep popping in from some alternate universe somewhere, then disappearing again. No sign yet of Lord Borel. But maybe that's 'cause Corwin and he already had their fated encounter.
