Dear Britt,
Old folks! Why, Chiara isn't in her second thousand yet. As to
popping in and out of universes, from what Jason has said, Chiara hasn't
been overly enthusiastic about that kind of thing, either. I've made a
few comments to him about her general reaction to Oberon's current
behavior, and been quite amused by his replies. NPC's aren't supposed to
do the major stuff, except in direct opposition to PC's, however. I'm
sure Dairmaid and Co. don't follow this, but it's got to be their ball
game, or it's no fun for the players. On the other hand, if one of you
just managed to go looking for, say, Whelan, and come up with a real good
idea for what he should be doing next, that fits with the character, then
the NPC's do get helpful. At least, that's the way it always seemed to
work when I was running Chiara. Whelan, in particular, wouldn't do spit,
at least out where the PC's could see it, until one of them came up with
something good, appropriate and useful for him to do.
If Oberon turned Chiara into a plant, she'd be a Jumping Cholla,
which is a cactus with a reputation for leaping at people and jabbing
them with its spines. (Of course, it isn't really quite that aggressive,
but Chiara would be, especially when Oberon was around.) Did you know
that Chiara cold cocked Daddy Oberon one time? He had to agree with her
that he needed it, afterward, too. Poor Oberon! No wonder he doesn't
like aggressive females. I do not like the sound of Oberon out looking
for family members in Shadow. Seems like a really good time for Chiara
to start hanging around House Minobee or House Kestrel. Besides, they
should be so glad to see her. She's such a sweet girl. Bless Mama for
replacing the Unicorn. Don't know how she managed it, but she's got to
be a tremendous improvement. You still haven't answered my question
about Flora's predeliction for chasing any male who shows up. As for her
munching brains, I suppose that evens it up - one male doing it, and one
female. Just so Chiara stays out of reach.
