Dear Paula,
Dairmaid and Nerene talked to Vialle about the Neighborhood Watch.
She said she'd discuss it with Random. We weren't sure if that was
such a hot idea. Corwin and Random have been hanging out a lot lately.
Corwin's hardly around. He's always out carousing with Random or else
on mysterious "House Business". But Corwin is solidly on Oberon's side.
We don't know if Random is, too. But Vialle seems to think he's
trustworthy. I hope that her steadfast Rebman loyalty hasn't been
misplaced.
Atura, Nerene, and Dairmaid worked out a while. The demon (now
officially dubbed "Shorty," as in "I won't be happy until I've crammed
you into a locker, Shorty." because for some reason he doesn't want
to tell me his name . . . could it be the True Name concept again?) has
abandoned Oberon to support Atura. Seems Oberon has no "Battle Honor" --
he resorts to using the Pattern and things, whereas Atura can kick ass
without arcane assistance. So Shorty intimidated any gaurds who might
be thinking about trying to stop Atura, as if Atura herself isn't
intimidating enough.
Bleys and Llewella contacted Dairmaid. Both of them are lurking off
in Shadow. They are interested in "freeing" Amber. Dairmaid agreed
to help them do so, while saying that he wasn't willing to say, destroy
the Pattern or put anyone particular on the throne. Dairmaid doesn't
trust either party. He may have offended Llewella. Bleys said, "So,
shall we shake on it, or do whatever you do to seal a deal in Rebma?"
Dairmaid looked over at Llewella and said "I don't think she'd go for it."
She promptly left the room -- whether it was to answer a trump call,
to avoid strangling Our Hero or to burst out laughing, I don't know.
Oberon came slinking back around, darn it. There's going to be some big
feast in a day or two, so he gave up trying to root out reluctant
descendants. Luckily he didn't bug us about the sword thing.
Morgan peacefully negotiated his release from House Amber with Eric.
Eric doesn't remember the big fight with Oberon, so he didn't see any
reason why Morgan shouldn't be allowed to leave, and they very pleasantly
discussed arrangements. Morgan is giving reproductive cells to other
houses, the issue of which will be members of Amber, even though Oberon
has waived reproductive requirements (whew!). He SAYS that he's still
doing it to avoid bad blood with Amber, but he seems to have taken a
LIKING to the idea. (Ew.)
Flora released Lazarus and Dori from Happy Land. She explained that
when they trumped her, she'd been busy and wasn't ready to deal with
them, so that's why she'd rendered them docile. She said that she was
just trying to prevent strife within the Family. She could see that Dori
and Laz weren't going to cause any strife so she was leaving them with just
a few imperatives -- don't harm any family members, don't destroy the
Pattern . . . and don't mention this to anyone else. So, you can see,
Flora is operating from only the PUREST of motives, and we should all
TRUST and LOVE her. Yeah, right.
Flora hasn't been chasing any MEN around, but ladies of good breeding and
mild manner had better watch out.
Britt
