It's been a long time since I've sent you an Amber summary!
We've been making Amber sock puppets. Yes, perhaps we are a
little bit too "into" Amber. But they're awfully cute. It
all started when I said, "If you watch closely you can see Oberon's
lips move any time Eric talks." We sent Shawn a Corwin with
removable eyes for his birthday.
Well, lots has happened.
Dori and Oberon were *almost* married. Oberon tried to get
married at the Church of the Serpent. While wearing the Jewel
of Judgement. The Serpent rose out of the Abyss and smote him.
Big time. Oberon got a couple of fangs through the chest. The
venom turned him into a pile of black, sticky goo in a matter
of days. Titania (no longer in Unicorn-form) helped in the fight,
and eventually chased the Serpent off, so luckily the Jewel is
still in the Family.
Various branches of the family showed up for the funeral:
Osric's, Finndo's, Chiara and Lucien. It was the most peaceful
Family gathering *this* little green Rebman has ever seen.
Everyone was nice -- bygones having gone by. Everyone was also
eerily quiet about who was going to take the throne in Amber.
Eric say that Amber will be reopened, but nobody's sure when,
since cracking it open now would probably just be an invitation
for the entire Golden Circle attacking en masse.
Caine showed up for the funeral. Corwin tried to bait him,
but Caine showed admirable restraint. He even apologized to
Atura for past offenses. He's been surveying the economic
damage in the Golden Circle.
When Dairmaid when to Rebma to visit Moire, he found her in
bad shape. Talking to people who weren't there, insisting that
all her children had run away, and the like. Dairmaid mixed up
a little cocktail, applied it intraveously, then trumped
with her to Amber. He was livid. Gerard and Benedict had known
about her condition and had done nothing. Gerard's excuse was that
she wouldn't let them near her. Dairmaid took her to Llewella,
who's still hiding out in Shadow with Bleys, and gathered what
family was available to be with her -- Dairmaid's mother, Cordelia,
and Nerene, plus a few loyal servants. Llewella has removed
the fantasy worlds Moire had concocted from her mind, but she
says it will take time for Moire to come to grips with all that
has happened. Dairmaid hasn't come to visit her yet. Ostensibly
he's been busy. Julian asked him to look after Amber while
Gerard and Benedict attended Oberon's sick bed. Yadda yadda yadda.
Really, Dairmaid is afraid to see her when she doesn't have full
command of her faculties. He's done some pretty despicable stuff,
and his sense of his goodness as a person depends heavily on his
belief in the Queen's wisdom.
Meanwhile, Morgan, Lazarus, AND Maximillian are all under
investigation by Chaos Justicars for their involvment with the
Kendrai. They're being framed for the murder of the Prime Minister,
who was killed by some kind of a fire angel hybrid.
They're innocent, of course. Kamow just broke them out of
Justicar HQ.
