Dear Paula,
Well, most of the Youngers were otherwise occupied and didn't
get to meet many people. The rest of us just tried to be nice.
It was made clear that after the current ruckus was smoothed
down, they'd go back to their own little universes, so we didn't
work too hard to make friends.
There was a big family meeting, officiated by Gerard, about who
was going to be king. Early on, Corwin announced that HE was
king, and that was that and the Family's STAYING in Chaos and
stomped out, followed closely by Dierdre. The dumb thing is,
Eric was wearing the Jewel at the time, so a while later Corwin
asked (wisely via Gerard) if he could have the Jewel now. Eric
said, "Pfft. Whatever." At the meeting, it was determined that
amongst the Elders, only Eric and Bleys were actually interested
in the throne. Eric went through this protracted demonstration
of his reluctance. I think it was just so that if anyone gives
him any crap later on he can say, "Well, I didn't really WANT
to be the King, but there was nobody else QUALIFIED, and you guys
all WANTED me to be King, so what, now you're not going to do
what I say?" Needless to say, the Family voted down Bleys,
who was almost aggressively good-natured about it. I figure he
has his own plans in motion, and grabbing the throne NOW would
just get in the way. It bugs me that he's such a charming little
bastard -- Dairmaid's mother thinks he's a perfect peach.
Finndo and Osric, and Lucien and the other Osric, I think, were
included in this discussion, which kind of annoyed Dairmaid, since
they're going to go disappear. If they aren't interested in making
an investment in THIS Family, why should we care what they think?
But they want to keep trade and communication going between the
realms.
Corwin is being pretty civil about allowing any servants and
nobility who wish to return to Amber to do so. I wonder how
long this little detante will last?
Moire is not in very good shape. She refuses to believe that
Oberon closed off Amber and Rebma, or that she had a husband
or children in Chaos. She blames Llewella and me, basically,
for hijacking her and holding her prisoner. Well, who can blame
her? But we won't be letting her go until she is interfacing
more efficiently with reality. Even if/when she is, Llewella
says it's doubtful that she'll ever trust us again.
Which sucks for Dairmaid, but Eric's giving him a dukedom in
Amber, so at least he'll have somewhere to hang out if the Queen
disowns him. It will absolutely devastate him, of course, but
things could be worse.
We've told the rest of the Family that she's suffered an injury.
Eric wants to be told if there's any chance she won't survive.
Dairmaid asked why, and Eric told him, "That's between her and
me." I wonder what's up there?
The accused Kendrai-sympathisers hung out in the Pit for a while,
until they were payed an unanticipated visit by Brand. He may
be the best-adjusted member of the Family, right now -- brimming
with good will and fatherly concern for Lazarus. Anyway, after
Brand sauntered in, they decided to go off into Shadow and find
more secure surroundings.
Amy (who plays Dori) and Dani (who plays Lazarus) will be back
this week after a 2 week hiatus.
