(NAY-dir) noun, the point of the celestial sphere that is directly opposite the zenith and vertically downward from the observer; the lowest point.

The Nadir is the depths of lunacy, home of all things humerous, wacky, or even just vaguely amusing.

Warning: many of the sites I link to are intended for grown-ups, and may involve adult language and situations and plenty of off-color shenanigans. Land 'o Wholesome Family Fun this ain't. Now that I've guaranteed that every kid who reads this site will be eagerly investigating every link . . .

My Own Pages

Man, how do you introduce your own attempts at humor? 'Cause it seems like the kiss of death for a funny person is thinking you're funny. Maybe I should open up with a joke? Um, well, I think I'll just imagine all readers of this page in their underwear.

Meet my cat, Susan, and discover a whole new realm of physics.

Science as portrayed in movies and on TV is pretty remote from reality. So one disgruntled astronomer lashes out, fighting fire with fire (or at least entertainment with entertainment) with a crude parody: Hollywood Instant Data Reduction Software.

Dailies

If you're like me, you can read the same humorous piece over and over again and be just as tickled each and every time. However, if you're not like me, you want fresh humor every day--or purt' near. Then you should definitely bookmark:

The Onion America's Finest News Source, in print or online.
The Brunching Shuttlecocks: Pure and simple as a hammer to the forebrain.

(If you are like me, don't worry -- they have archives!)

Esoteric animal cults

Though an atheist by religious persuasion, never let it be said that I can't appreciate a good, wholesome cult.

FONDL: The Naked Dancing Llama Fan Club! Home of the Naked Dancing Llama. (Don't be fooled: this is probably the most kid-friendly site on the page.)
Religion is the opium of the masses . . . and the Temple of Herman has the best dope in town.

Amusing time-wasters

Some sites contain enormous amounts of stuff that it would take a while to plow through. Unfortunately, if it's good stuff, you're likely to take the time. Click at your own risk.

If you're a Public Broadcasting junkie like Lucy, you know all about Car Talk but you might not know how neat their web site is. In fact, "Car Talk" is a restristictive misnomer. Cars, schmars, it seems there's little these guys won't talk about -- but it's all in reasonably good taste, so bring the kids
The Straight Dope from Uncle Cecil. A one-man war on ignorance. Well, one man and a small staff.
Spinnwebe is sarcastic and bitter, but quite thought-provoking, as well. Just the thing to get you going on a Monday.

You are now at Nadir.
