2005 Radio/Submm Astronomy Planning Group (5RSAPG) Minutes of telecon 04Nov29 Present: Geoff Blake, Don Campbell, John Carlstrom, Neal Evans, Martha Haynes, Jackie Hewitt, Ken Kellermann, Jim Moran, and Steve Myers 1. MH reported that informational items about 5RSAPG activities have been provided to the AAS, NRAO and NAIC for inclusion in upcoming newsletters. [Note: a brief item appeared in the AAS electronic newsletter transmitted on 09Dec.] 2. A proposal for funding planning group face-to-face meetings is being drafted by AUI and will be submitted to the NSF shortly. We might 3. Some information is now available on the NSF budget for FY05 contained in the Congressional omnibus bill. The outlook looks rather grim but details remain unclear. 4. The target date for input from facility/project contacts is Dec 15th. Group contacts will try to provide advice on formats and answer questions to insure that we receive the information that is needed for this process. 5. There was a discussion of the best approach to the science questions. It was generally agreed that we should follow the outline of the 2000 ASAC Radio and Submillimeter Panel report but with also some specific mention of the fundamental questions that ground based radio and submillimeter astronomy will uniquely address. 6. It was agreed that some policy statements might be reiterated but that, following the structure of the 2000 ASAC which had its own policy panel, the principal purpose of the activity is to review science and technology developments and drivers. 7. NE, JC, SM, DC and MH agreed to begin work on an outline of the report. 8. Telecons are now scheduled for Dec 13, 27, Jan 10 and 24. 9. MH will organize an informal meeting of anyone attending the AAS meeting on Wed Jan 12. JC will organize an informal meeting of anyone attending the URSI meeting.
